The Role of the Modern Submarine

United States policy is based on four major elements:  Deterrence, Forward Presence, Crisis Response, and Force Reconstitution.  Naval forces perform many roles in carry out this policy.  Submarines are a key element of the Navy team in a variety of these roles.  Submarines complement other forces as part of a ballanced joint force structure.  The Submarine's role includes:
