Task Group Support
Submarines can operate in a task group support role either independently or as an integrated component.  The stealth of submarines allow them to be the unseen forward lookouts of a task group.  Submarines can provide friendly surface ships or aircraft with over-the-horizon targeting for anti-ship missiles, intelligence reports on hostile force movements, and combat search and rescue.

Submarines enhance task group operations while minimizing the risk of attack on other elements of the task group.

Submarines are particularly well suited for anti-submarine warfare in support of a task group.  A quiet submarine with its sensitive detection equipment, combined with the very effective heavyweight homing torpedo, makes the submarine the dominant anti-submarine system in the task group.
