Forward Presence
Submarines conduct their forward presence role through a range of activities, such as forward deployments, combined exercises and operations, port visits, and military-to-military relations.  These activities strengthen alliances, foster regional stability, influence events, and complement the more limited navies and military forces of many friends and allies.

Submarines' endurance allows them to perform this forward presence role without forward bases and with minimum deployed logistic support.

The visible presence of submarines is an unmistakable symbol of U.S. commitment to regional peace and stability.  The potential presence of invisible submarines can multiply the effect of this symbology.
